I garbled: October 1993 cover picture of a 19/20/21/22 or 23 21-year-old Peter Jes

Follow-up: Two sources tell me Peter Jes Thomsen (even Gammon often misspells his name) was born 2 March 1972, which would have made him 21 when he won the World Championship in 1993. Peter was a quickly rising beginner in 1990. That year, he won the Beginner Division of the Frederiksborg Amts Mesterskab and the "B Division" of the Danish Championship. By July 1991 he had climbed to #7 on Danish rating list, right behind #6 John Sjølin (and it's not easy to rise quickly on the DBgF list, since there's no FIBS-like "boost" for new players). In the Fall of 1992, Peter and John were on the team that won the 1992/1993 Danish Team Championship. John lost to Peter in the 1993 World Championship final match.
