Wastage in the one-checker model

After solving Sam's exercise (which I could only do (kind of) after reading Walter Trice's article "Why 7n+1" on Gammonvillage), I think

Limit Wastage = (V/A + A - 1)/2,

with V=variance and A=average number of pips. Of course, this is only true if there is convergence. One requirement is that the greatest common divisor of all possible numbers of pips in a roll is 1.
