(1) Who's making fun of Falafel, Klaus? Not me, and I don't think Falafel will mind if Stick tweaks him a bit for making a 'seventh best' move that gave up ... what, -0.020? (Stick's Gnubg rollout has 4th best at -0.022.) And I'll bet Falafel won't make that play the next time it comes up.

(2) If we're not going to start another discusion about the importance of opening plays, let's not not start it with the it's more important to study 'real' backgammon instead of openings argument. You can, and should, study both. I'm sure Falafel has. And if you play most openings well, it shouldn't take you much time at all to eliminate the few errors you do make, leaving you plenty of time to study 'real' backgammon.
