I will add to this that you need to consider what your opponent is giving up by hitting. With all of those builders in the outfield, your opponent is really looking to make his 5 point or 4 point with a majority of rolls. Being on his bar point either forces him to hit instead of making one of those key points, or allowing you to stay and giving you the chance to either make the point or perhaps even have a direct shot at a checker in the outfield. Other numbers make the bar anyway and will be a good roll whether you are there or not. So really, there are simply not that many rolls in which stepping out does not seriously mess with your opponent's plans. Stepping out here functions much like a tempo play without the hit.
