Rolling on Wrong Side

I play in a chouette and want the rule and general consensus of players re : rolling on the wrong side of table. Years ago, we allowed players to ask permission to roll on the other side of bg table.Then, for years, we went back to rolling on the right side and adhering to the rule. Now, someone wants to revisit this issue. Personally, I prefer rolling on the right side and not allowing a player to ask for permission to do otherwise. In our chouette, the box has the choice of going in either direction.What is the rule re this issue?( rolling on other side). What is general consensus in chouettes and, why ? Oh, and, thanks re other info on dumping dice vs tossing dice. The player in question is now tossing the dice.
