As long as backing a player is allowed, it would seem to me that the terms of the deal would not be the business of anyone except the individuals involved. I presume that 25% was "fair" because that's how you do business. But, it doesn't really matter if it was fair or not as long as the two of you understood the terms and agreed to them.

Was this an attempt to intervene as tournament director or was it the offering of unsolicited advice?
