Chicago ABT Finals

Nice analogy, RDR.
I think it is inaccurate to compare a Calcutta 'horse' with other kinds of investments/partnerships. Here is an example I overheard this weekend (and I hope I have the facts straight).
Two opponents in the Main hedged, taking a percentage of each other for the remainder of the tournament. The one who lost that match also immediately lost the Consolation, and then told his/her hedge partner that s/he was going to forfeit the LC. The other partner pointed out (nicely) that forfeiting was inconsistent with the hedge agreement. After some discussion, apparently the other partner had a change of heart, as s/he ended up playing in the LC.
No one (that I know of) who plays in a tournament makes an agreement with the Calcutta buyer that s/he will do what is in the best interests of the Calcutta team. In fact, this issue has come up before regarding playing legal moves vs. illegal moves. I won't go into my (strong) opinion on the feeling of some that a Calcutta member is obligated to play the illegal moves rule for the good of his teammates & team buyer.
