I would not want any tournament director forced to be a party to a hedge agreement if I was married to them. That's an agreement between the players and the tournament director has no interest in it as long as there isn't collusion.

Putting a hedge in writing is always a good idea. I don't ever hedge and one of the reasons is that I have seen many misunderstandings about what the deal really was.
