Deliberate hustling is not so likely, but it's not so unlikely for something almost identical to happen inadvertently. I think I see 5-3, my opponent plays 5-2, I pick up the dice, then realize that my opponent played 5-2, and then I object. Maybe my timid opponent acquiesces. Or maybe we get into an argument and have to call the director. Maybe I think I am being honest but subconsciously I am tricking myself because it would be in my interest for my opponent to have rolled a 5-3. Surely one of the main advantages of having one set of dice is to avoid these kinds of problems.

If one is going to rewrite the rules then it seems better to me to avoid such problems and have the illegal roll be automatically condoned once the physical evidence has been destroyed.
