Cube overboard (OT puzzle)

It appears to be Puzzle Thursday, so here we go.

You're sitting in a boat in a lake with some friends playing in a chouette. The box just rolled consecutive doubles to win a salty race. In a fit of rage, one of the players picks up a doubling cube and heaves it into the water. It sinks to the bottom.

Does the water level of the lake rise, fall, or stay the same? Assume that the most minute changes in water level can be measured.

OB BG ruling: if you have cube access and you pick it up and throw it in the lake, are you considered to have cubed?
