In Response To: 2 Cube Max $$ Strategy (David Rockwell)

The player who should turn the cube is the player who wins the most single games. If the cube was turned, that player would win more additional points than he / she would lose. Note that it doesn't matter who is winning the game.

So, who wins more single games? The (adjective omitted) player who is going to try to get close to the take point before turning the cube is the one who wins the most single games. That's the player who is going to win more games with doubles that are properly dropped and that's the player who is costing themselves equity by waiting. So, if you are trying to get close to the take point, stop it! You are hurting yourself.

Therefore, if you are playing someone who doesn't understand the strategy, you can wait a little while even when you are favored. But, don't wait too long. Whenever you are winning and you play on with market losers, you are counting on both the game reversing and your opponent making the same mistake you just deliberatively made to recover the gambitted equity.

I wait a little bit at this score with players I know are ignorant of the strategy. But, I don't wait long. If I see more than a handful of market losers, I turn the cube. It just isn't worth it to wait.
