Sax' play against Kazaross' 1-3 anchor

In the previous broadcasted match Steve gave a blot onto the empty 2 point while Neil had two anchors on 1 and 3.

Steve had the chance to cover the blot with a spare from the 8 point with a 6 but omitted this and moved instead from the back.

Neil eventually hit the slot from 24 with 1-6 and connected to the outfield while breaking the 22 anchor also.

The outcome of the game was very good for Steve and he won finally a doubled Gammon or even Backgammon.

I would appreciate if somebody could put this position and Steve's slotting and omitting covering play here into the forum and discuss the ideas behind these moves.
