How I know I'm Not a Giant

In today's chouette, three of us redoubled (to 4) the box, who was a Giant. He took, and I immediately offered to take 3. While he was thinking about it, the other two players said they would also take 3. He gave them 3, but he was sharp enough to figure out that if he gave me 3 he would give up the box, and he explained to me that he wasn't about to give away that equity.

Clearly I am not smart enough to make settlements like this.
