n-on-m terminology

There seems to be standard terminology for positions where one player is behind a prime with a number of checkers while the opponent is on the bar with a number of checkers versus a strong homeboard. With one behind the prime and one on the bar, I have seen the position classified as a one-on-one. Likewise with 2 on the bar and 2 checkers primed. Is n the number of checkers on the bar or behind the prime in an n-on-m ?
