The format of the Dansk Masterskab (Danish Championship) was changed this year.
Previously, half of the spots in the final were awarded to those ranked highest in the DBgF Rating list who preregistered. The other spots were won in modified Swiss qualifying tournaments held throughout Denmark, the number of prizes at each venue depending on the number of players who chose to play in each venue. The final was usually cup format.
This year, no places were awarded by rating. Instead, there were two modified Swiss qualifying tournaments. Each was of 6 rounds to 9 points. A third loss meant elimination from the next round's draw, and all players with 4 or more wins qualified for the final. Those not qualifying in the first tournament could play in the second.
The first qualifer (DM East) was held in Valby. 104 players attended. 35 players qualified:
Wins Qualifiers 6 2 (1.9%) 5 10 (9.6%) 4 23 (22.1%) The second qualifer (DM West) was held in Horsens. 33 players attended. 12 players qualified:
Wins Qualifiers 6 1 (3.0%) 5 3 (9.1%) 4 8 (24.2%) For reference, a binomial distribution:
Wins Percent 6 1.6% 5 9.4% 4 23.4% In all, there were 137 entries in the two qualifiers, and 47 qualifed for the finals to be held in October.
