What you are responding to, Bill, bears no relation to what I said or to the point that I am trying to make. That reaction seems to be the hallmark of extremists of whatever political stripe. The refusal to admit to any distinctions. Avoiding the use of racial slurs has nothing to do, in my view, with self-esteem and the absurdities you suggest. As a competent BG player, you obviously are able to make subtle distinctions and make plays on the basis of the reality presented by each position, score etc. ; not on the basis of preconceived ideology. I'm sure you would not hesitate to play a poorly timed backgame, bury checkers on the ace point, etc., if the position demanded it, even though those are not generally winning plays. Why can't you do that when it comes to social interaction?
This apart from the phenomenon that the only folks who have no patience with sensitivities on racial epithets seem invariably to belong to groups that have no (recent) history of persecution/oppression. (This is somewhat akin to the maxim that a liberal is someone who has never been mugged and a conservative is someone who has never been arrested.)
Personal insults to Carter and others may be indicative of arrested social development, but they do not connote the historical persecution/oppression of ethnic groups.
In response to Nack, I would never suggest that you refrain from a legal play in Scrabble -- only that certain words should not be legal.
