Thanks for the clarification, Jake. But the fact that the term was coined approximately 150 years ago does not really change my point. I had a cousin who cared for a relative with the Syndrome, and we all used the term "Mongoloid idiot" without thinking anything of it. I don't think it's mere political correctness to replace that term, which is offensive both to persons with that condition and to persons of the Mongolian race (a term that is still in common use, although reportedly offensive to some).
