"Negro" is not considered offensive, but simply antiquated
Not considered offensive...I'm not sold on that. Assume you're in a big pool hall in any town USA which normally has a mix of white/black/asians/etc... You're talking to your friends telling a story and are overheard by the table next to you, happens to be two black guys shooting pool. They don't hear the entire conversation just bits and pieces. Do you think they'd take these two fragments the same?

I don't. I think negro is the kind of word your racist grandparents whisper when the family is around. Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it isn't supposed to carry that denotation but I think it does.
To answer Leonardo's original question, we'd say black people.
