Peever-Mochy Meribel Quarterfinals

Meribel, in the French Alps, is largest ski complex in Europe. It spans three huge valleys, has 120 lifts (most are gondolas) and 360 miles of trails.

Friday we had a tournament of 3pt matches at a place that was 9000 ft in altitude. Very spectacular scenery, clear blue sky with almost no wind. Mt. Blanc, the highest point in western Europe, was visible. I do not guarantee these two numbers are consistent, but it was about 20 degrees F and about -6 degrees C.

There were about 40-45 players in the main event. Larry Taylor and Bob Wachtel are the only other Americans.

Peever plays the white checkers, Mochy the black. Over the board, all four positions were doubled and taken. At time of this post, Mochy leads 12-0 in a 13pt match. We took a break for Mochy's lecture and dinner.
