I did not have made any test on the strength of 6 or 7 ply level. To my knowledge no one did.

We can expect them to be better than 5-ply, but by how much? The Depreli study shows that the odd-even ply effect exists but does not prevent each ply to be stronger. In term of Elo compared to 3-ply we have:

4-ply +8.5

5-ply +11.9

XGR+ +17.8

Can 6-ply gain 5.9 elo from the 5-ply? I highly doubt it.

I am currently testing the new version on a set of 1000 games. Analyzing them in 5-ply tooks 42 hours. Analyzing them in 6-ply will take more than a month and in 7-ply about 2 years!

I've included 6 and 7 ply with the tought they would be used only for end game positions, it does not seems practical to use them for regular position.

But as Timothy points, it may be worth to make some test so maybe I will run a set of 200 games using 6-ply.
