53D-62?

Someone went old-school on me and played 53: 13/8 13/10. What should I have done with my 62 response?

I slotted, but in retrospect I think I should have split. If 52D-62S is correct then 53D-62S should also be correct, since my opponent's numbers are more seriously with her forward chequers all two apart.

Bonus question. Should the fact that I'm playing someone who likes 53D affect my own decisions, and how?
