Another Question About Bearing In Against Ace Point Games

I once watched a BG Giant on GridGammon. He was very careful to always leave 4 checkers on the highest 2 points so as to avoid leaving a blot with a large double. I remember reading in Danny Kleinman's books that this is incorrect as the risk of leaving a double shot with numbers like 65 is far worse.

So my question is are there any circumstances where it is right to play like the Giant?
