Forum Message Structure

Is there any way of sorting the messages that makes it more readable. I've been flipping switches but am having a tough time find a way of scanning the forum for new postings that doesn't involve either missing posts or having to scan through 100+ messages. I'm sure there's a better way that I'm missing.
