Origin of the term "raccoon"

Last week, I got an e-mail from Steven Keats. He says he knows the origin of the term "raccoon"—because he invented it!

Here's what he wrote. It sounds quite plausible to me. What do others think?

In reference to the "raccoon", I invented the term in the 70's playing on Long Island, NY, when backgammon was at its peak. In particular, the raccoon was used at Dr. Bob Hill's house, located in Old Westbury, NY, because the players were complaining that the cube did not get high enough.

My name is Steven Keats, "The Judge", and I was the leading player on Long Island in the Long Island Backgammon Association from its inception in the 70's to its demise in the 80's. I was named the Judge because I was a judge.
