Before buying eXtreme Gammon........

Students and other players keep asking me; 'should I buy eXtreme now or wait for xg2 to come out?'. I tell them to buy it now and they will likely be able to upgrade cheaply or for free, if it is within a reasonable time span of their purchase. I should probably know the answer to this before I spout off any advice. Can someone fill me in? Xavier?
