Interesting tournament in Norway

Some of you probably remember that Norway Open had to be cancelled due to legal issues. This had to do about paying prize money when the winner is (partially) determined by randomness. As it turned out, there was a tournament organized anyway, with two competitions in one.

The tournament was organized as a swiss, with only 5 rounds and only 5-point matches. The winner won the title and a trophy. The reason for the short matches and few rounds was that every match had to be written down (by the players), and was entered and analyzed in XG right after it was completed. The three players with the lowest average error rate over the five rounds won the prize money. Of course it can be argued whether there is randomness involved in finding the player with the lowest error rate, but there was no reaction from any authorities.

Only 16 players took part, but this tournament produced a lot of live recorded matches, which can be downloaded in XG format here. The tournament report in the link is in Norwegian, but there is a table with the error rates for all the matches (that everybody can read). The winner of the tournament was Kåre Aronsson from Sweden, but the player with the lowest average ER was Bob Wachtel, playing an impressive 2.28 over the five matches.
