Nack's Genius Analysis

I like Nack's analysis as much as anyone, but sometimes I get the feeling that some people are missing one of the key features of his approach to the opening. Namely, knowing a ton of reference positions allows you to infer the correct play in many other related positions, without even having to figure out "why" the play is correct (in the sense of a purely verbal explanation). In particular, the point is that you don't have to be a genius to play the opening like a bot, if you adopt a systematic approach and put in the requisite effort.
The mathematician Gian-Carlo Rota used to say, only half-jokingly, "Memory beats intelligence every time."
