"What's Your Game Plan?" is the name of the excellent well-written new book by Mary Hickey and Marty Storer. (If you do not already have it, you should buy, borrow or steal it.) My game plan here is priming my opponent's single back checker.
I would play 42P, making my 4pt while leaving my 5pt slotted. This play gives me a good chance to quickly make my strongest three-point board, putting me well on my way to priming my opponent's single back checker.
White leads in the race, owns a point in her board and has only one checker back while Blue is still anchored on his 24pt. White is therefore the favorite, indicating a bold play by Blue. Getting hit is far from fatal; Blue will always (100%) have return shots after being hit if he plays 42P. Blue gets too many return shots to count (50 is my guess) if White hits with 41.
By making the 4pt and leaving the 5pt slotted, Blue leaves 14 shots. Even though the duplication is minimal (only 6 of these 14 numbers, 42 31 44 22, make one of White's key offensive points), leaving the shot is still best.
