another play decision

It's another rule that should be always at the forefront of your thoughts when playing backgammon. Whether or not you make the play is of little importance, that you see the play and give it its due consideration is important. Especially when you already have a decent prime as we do in this position when there's one or two points left to fill in you should always think about filling them in the quickest possible way assuming you don't roll the natural number you were looking for to make it directly, slot them and cover when missed. This puts a lot of pressure on your opponent to perform and when they don't it often leads you to an enormous improvement in your position, sometimes a real crusher. Your opponent is never favored to hit you but you have to weight the risk v. reward of each situation as it comes up.

Still, in this position before the roll what were you hoping for? If you were a character out of the Sunday comics you would have a bubble above your head hoping to roll a set of sixes and given that isn't likely most of your energy would be focused on what is more likely to happen, make the 4pt and lastly making the bar point. You rolled, you didn't make them, but they were obviously important enough to think about beforehand, why let the idea slip out of your mind now?
