Thoughts on the World Championship

My thoughts are in line with almost all of what you said. I want to emphasize one comment that you made.

...being the world champion of other games/sports (almost?) always means that you're at the top of your chosen profession.

The current system does not deliver this result.

Let me be clear as well that I am not being critical of the Monte Carlo tournament. It is the best, or one of the best, tournaments in the world. It often gives us a deserving World Champion. It is a great tradition. I would just like to see an event which catered to the skills of the best players to a greater extent than we see now.

As I said at the top, I don't think that Backgammon treats its best players very well. That's why so many of them drop out of the game. I would like to see that change. The World Championship is just one event where something might be done. I'm not stuck on that. My main point is that I want to keep our great players active.
