In Response To: Some questions & comments re: USBGF MC t'cast (Chuck Bower)

I can probably answer some of the tech side:

1) Sometimes the video was frozen but I could hear dice shaking and rolling.

This is usually indicative of a transmission problem between the source (MC) and the Livestream server in use. The freezing is the stream attempting to adjust to a drop in transmission rate. Software kept the audio going and stopped updating video temporarily. This freezing could occur because of bad connectivity between you and the Livestream server BUT often we were all experiencing the same thing at nearly the same time. This indicated the problems were probably mostly on the MC side.

Matt had let us know that the transmission speeds at times sucked from MC. During testing (There were a few of us that helped testing during down times). To allow soother video in times of bad transmission times one can drop the frame rate and or drop the resolution. As well the Audio takes up bandwidth so turning it off at bad times will give more room for video transmission.

One thing that was noted was often when things started going bad the stream would go black. At those times Matt usually had to drop the resolution/drop audio/drop frame rate until it came back.

The resolution that was worst was the 320x240 (dice were hard to read). At 800x600 it was much better and full screen looked good.

The problems you saw were likely not your connection most of the time - in this case with Monte Carlo streaming, but that doesn't necessarily mean there aren't issues with your connection.
