I didn't get to watch much of MC either but did watch most of the finals and some of the semis. I was the only person I ever saw comment on the sloppy shaking/rolling/moving checkers with both hands/moving the checkers with one hand and hitting the clock with the other. It really annoys me to varying degrees for this to be allowed, esp. as you said with the near lipless dice cubs of MC and the manner in which some move/hit the clock with opposite hands to actually save themselves time. (and cost you time)
It reminds me somewhat of a rule in tennis and how it is never followed at the recreational level. The rule is basically when the ball is traveling towards your opponent you keep your mouth shut. What I mean for example is in doubles if you hit a lob and it's a weakass lob and your partner is up at the net you can't say/shout "Short!" "Back up!" or anything for that matter. It can be a distraction to the other team. Now, it normally isn't a distraction but it is allowing the offending team to get in better position by one partner alerting the other partner to his poor shot. I'm one of the few pricks that will call this in rec play because it is distracting because I know the rule and understand why it exists and the effects it can have on a point. It wouldn't distract me by someone saying something during my shots but I register that they've committed a rule infraction and how that helps them out in the point and it becomes a distraction.
