I genuinely did not see my opponent play this otherwise I would have corrected him.

Isn't this the whole argument against 'legal plays'? You never saw it, he never saw it, so how can 'legal-plays' be enforced if neither play sees it? Mistakes in checker-play will always occur, if it 'occurs' too often and the 'mistake' always favours the perpetrator, then you might come to the conclusion they are doing it deliberately.

If you weren't paying attention then you have to let it go.

I often see quite a few misplays when I transcribe matches from video to XG. No one sees them, so no one corrects them, with or without a 'legal-play' rule.
