To me when I play legal moves with someone, then we are both ethically obligated to point out illegal moves whether they are good or bad for us.

Of course, if both players don't see the illegality then there's nothing that can be done. Sometimes both players do miss it and often this is just a missplayed pip hopefully not a tragic difference.
