1ST INTERNATIONAL BACKGAMMON CHAMPIONSHIP U.S. PLAYOFFS
Only one month remains to enter the U.S. Playoffs of the 1stInternational Backgammon Championship. Thirty-three positions have been taken, leaving 31 slots remaining in the round of 64. You can be part of history by competing to be selected as one of four U.S. representatives in the 1st International Backgammon Championship. Only U.S. citizens may enter. The U.S. Playoffs will take place online from September 5th to October 10th. The Tournament Director for the U.S. Qualifying Playoffs is Stick. To win it you have to be in it! Come join the fun!
There are three remaining avenues for entering the U.S. Playoffs:
Players qualifying twice will receive a bye in the opening round of 64.
- Players may enter directly subject to the availability of openings by notifying USBGF at info@usbgf.org and sending $160 to the U.S. Backgammon Federation. Payment may be made by PayPal at payments@usbgf.orgor a check payable to the U.S. Backgammon Federation may be mailed to Karen Davis, Treasurer, 4838 Laurel Hill Place, Toledo, Ohio 43614. Direct entry is subject to the availability of openings so sign up soon if you are interested.
- Local clubs may contribute $80 and organize competitions to place one player as a Finalist in a finals playoff (1 round) to determine who gets a U.S. Playoff seat. Format is at local club director discretion, e.g. 8 entrants at $10 per entrant. The Finalist would play one other Local Club Finalist online or in-person to become a Qualifier for the IBC U.S. Playoffs.
- Enter the IBC $20 donor-pool at the next two upcoming ABT Open events in Florida and Wisconsin. The Open player contributing to the donor-pool who goes the furthest will win a slot in the U.S. Playoffs. If there are 32 or more entrants in the Open division, two players from the donor-pool will be selected.
The IBC U.S. Playoffs will be held on-line between September 5 and October 10 with matches to be recorded and submitted for review. The round of 16 and lower will be proctored as well as recorded. Details regarding format and online venue will be forthcoming.
The international competition will begin October 12 and complete the opening rounds by the end of December 2011 by proctored online competition. The USBGF will pay the entry fees of the four US representatives of 1000 Euros and 50 Euro registration fee for each player to participate in the semi-finals and finals in the first quarter of 2012 in a location to be determined. Based on an estimated 40 players participating from 15 countries, the prize pool will be $57,000 (paid in Euros), to 4 places. The prize breakdown based on 40 participants would be 50% for 1stplace, 25% for 2ndplace, and 12.5% for 3rdand 4thplaces.
