I'd just add to your fine examples that they also show the useful rule of thumb that the incentive to double diminishes more slowly than the equity of the position. This is because there is a considerable overlap between the racing market losers and the clearing numbers. So while it seems compulsory to factor in contact in the take / pass decision from three points apart on, it is less compulsory for the double / no double decision
