A hit and dance sequence is the end. That is the fear about the direct shot variant. But timing is delicate for both players. If white gives the direct shot now and isn't hit, the jackass is passed to black. A temporizing play leaves also a blot. It is just a decision between paying now anyway or paying now a little bit more. If you leave now the direct shot and you are not hit, you get a playable position and the squeeze is on black. You are not gin, but there is a payoff.
