Do you really mean that they seem mediocre, or do you mean that you think that actual results are meaningless?
If you say that the results seem mediocre, then that implicitly suggests that there is some threshold beyond which the results would no longer seem mediocre to you. For you, what is that threshold? Can you give an example of someone who has exceeded that threshold? If someone does exceed that threshold, does that impress you with their backgammon ability? If someone fails to exceed that threshold, does that make you think less of that player's backgammon ability? Or do you form your judgment of a player's ability independently of their actual results, and then say that they're luckdonks if they achieve good results, and unlucky if they don't? If the latter, then I don't see the point of your saying that someone's results are mediocre, in a manner that suggests that the results mean something.
