Wow that's a lot of questions. I'm off to drink soon but I'll toss out some answers before I go. Try to realize there are two people replying here, the me who will stick by short term results being meaningless (and profess that almost everyone doesn't understand how long the short term is) and the me who is here trying to ask questions based on what other people think. I know most others think that results matter and so in their eyes through my eyes I would say that his results are actually mediocre and not the results are meaningless.

then that implicitly suggests that there is some threshold beyond which the results would no longer seem mediocre to you

Again, two different people. For how I feel others feel I think they should think the results posted by Fernando are mediocre.

If someone does exceed that threshold, does that impress you with their backgammon ability?

I doubt I'll ever be impressed by results in backgammon. I can be impressed when I see someone play, when I talk to them, when we discuss problems, or what they put on paper for example. (like Nack's posts here)

I hope that made sense, I realize the wording isn't ideal but I'm out the door.
