Why not variable side pools?

Hi Bob,
So, assuming it’s a 64 player Tournament and all players have entered at at least $2.51 I think you’re calculating that if you win the tournament you’ll win 64 x $2.51 all of which are rounded up to $5.00 less a 5% rake which equals your prize fund. 64 x $5.00 = $320 – 5% = $304.
Hence the T.D. takes in $160.64, retains $8.032 and pays out $304 which means the T.D. makes a loss of $135.328. Under such circumstances organising Bg must qualify as a lousy career path.
Not sure who the “he” is that you refer to but I think you have misunderstood when the rounding bit happens. Here’s the way it really works:
64 x $2.51 = $160.64 – 5% rake ($8.032) = $152.608 which is then, and only then, rounded to the nearest 5 = your payout Sir in this VOP would be, if you win (highly possibly I grant you Bob) $150 not $304. Thanx for my $10.64, I’ll put it in my pension fund.
In summary: Nice try Bob but sorry Chum, your dastardly plan is flawed. However thanks for helping to highlight a potential problem and reinforcing my prior statement in this thread that “the T.D. needs to be fully on this ball if s/he introduces a VOP.”
I suggest you enter either the High or Medium Optional Pool where I think your skills and budget are better suited.
Kind regards,
Mike
