Grunch.
Although it is only the fourth move in this game, i feel myself severely uncomfortable with this position. Here is no more time for a slumper play. White is owner of the center in his offense position. He has developed both stacks of the initial state. Against this strong formation we have to create immediatly some sort of counter-play.
P. We equalize board points. But the holes on 3 and 4 are severe defekts compared to the organic development of the white position. If i want to counter priming with priming, i have to discard this.
D, $. This is just to slow and takes just to much risks for too little gain. In this early stage i hesitate to strip the midpoint. And slotting the 5 point can be discarded, because we have a good way to make a point instead of slotting a point: P.
S. The midpoint is already developed. By now, i will be happy to have here 2 spares. And splitting in the face, even against only 9 men in the zone, is just to weak. I fear the tempo hits on the 4 point, because i am not only on the roof, but White will develop his position a tempo. It is not only a hit, it is a valuable slotted point.
R. You can counter-play a beginning block simply by running away. A prime needs prisoners. What is a cage without birds? If White can hit, it is not good. But a hit in the outfield isn’t deceptive. I will then regard my man on the roof as the safer way to get a stand against the block with a split. Otherwise i am away, playing with 1 man against 2 men behind. If we can complete the run, we are getting some dissymmetry into the position.
R, 24/16.
