bearin where opp has 7 borne off

The risk of opponent entering quickly and winning the race is greater than the risk of leaving a shot which is hit. I would play 9-6, 8-4 over the board. Playing 9-5, 8-5 requires breaking the board with all sixes next.
Bill Robertie wrote some good material on these types of problems. What I learned from his writings is to look for a safe play and an aggressive play. With "few" checkers off, make the safe play. With "many" off, make the aggressive play. When trying to learn these positions, solve for the number of checkers off where the choice is a tossup.
When seeing this position at the board, I would ask myself how many checkers off is required to make the safe play (9-5, 8-5) correct here? My estimate is five or less, so I would play the aggressive 9-6, 8-4.
