I think the main point of 18/13*/11 is not to gain 18 pips in the race, but to run off the anchor with tempo and to put three White checkers behind our broken five-prime so that White still has work to do even if she hits back.

This looks like a close decision since the safe play stacks so awkwardly. However, we hold the cube and also have a slight match lead so that would seem to tip the balance in favor of the safe play. With the score and cube location reversed I'd be tempted to hit.
