White probably won't be volunteering any shots in this position, so if we want we can keep our midpoint point for another turn or two.

After this roll, it's Blue 118 to White 119, so there could be an advantage to having the midpoint in case we roll 5-x, and decide to run. Keeping the midpoint should also just about guarantee that White will avoid leaving a blot on his midpoint. He'll either run off it with both checkers, or remain nailed down there.

So, we could play the double slot, 8/2, 5/3, leaving spares on the six, seven and eight points. Our next turn would be spent covering. It's likely that we would have to pass up any shots.

Alternatively, we could make the five prime, and settle into the well-defined holding position that results.

Boths play have their merits.

My move: 8/2, 5/3

Mike
