I have an unfair advantage over you; I sneaked a peak into the treasure trove i.e. Backgammon Openings and cross-referenced A31 & A33 (p17) with the criteria for "hitting on the opponent's side" (p49). The "lowly 2pt" as its referred to in A33 and it got thinking about the blot on the 3pt.
How vulnerable will blue be if he decides not to hit?
After 24/22* 6/5(2), blue has a 24 pip lead, 2 back men vs. three and better flexibility going forward.
Although, blue will have three blots, white has 12 returns and 6's play fine. It would seem that the pro's and cons cancel each other out.
8/7(2) 6/5(2), blue leaves no blots, so no returns and 6's don't play as well. The latter checkmarks 4 of the criteria; how many do the former checkmark?
