Rollouts

In case you did have more experience than me I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep at night if I didn't get more familiar with it. So, I played out my play, 11* 17/7 11/6, thirty-six games and I did the same with your play of switching to the ace point. I only played these games out til closing out the checker(s) or losing, there was no point in playing out the position entirely for what we were discussing.
Highlights from Daniel's switching play
- 4 games I was unable to close out my opponent. In the process 1 backgammon was lost and 3 gammons.
- 3 games I was unable to close out both checkers. I closed one out but was unable to pick up the other checker again.
- I kept track of how many moves it took to close out the checkers in case this is of any interest to anyone.
Highlights from my play of 17/7 16/11* 11/6
- 1 game I failed to close out my opponent
It is only 36 trials for each play but in playing out my play I always felt in control of the position. I never had to dodge bullets. Even when the opponent might enter or might anchor up, there was never a worry of him swiftly escaping. With the switching play I felt a lot more tentative in general about my prospects because at any point XG could come in and not be primed as he is after my play.
In playing these out my plays never differed from XGR+'s play by more than .020, I made sure of that. I would not trust a rollout from this position unless it was a XGR+ rollout with a Huge (if not Gigantic) move filter. You should have seen some of the plays that 3 ply tried to red blunder ding me for then I pushed it through XGR+ and whoopsie! Good play. Even with a XGR+ rollout I'm not sure what I think about it, but I would not accept less than that for sure.
