1. 8/5* for sure. I say, keep it going 8/3. Cover the better point, leave less shots, Give your guy on the 4-point some hope of doing something positive. If you are lucky enough to be missed next time, leaving the 5-slotted would duplicate your aces next roll. 8/5*/3.

2. 13/4 doesn’t make much sense. You must leave a shot anyway so 8/5* for sure. 13/7 just about wraps up the game if you are missed, but 5 blots is playing it huge. I suppose even if he hits you get one roll to strike back, but if you don’t you are screwed. On the other hand, you could score some gammons too if XG dances. Still, 5 blots scares me. 8/5*, 8/2.

3. According to Stick’s recent recap, one man behind a 5-prime not at the edge is terrible. Drop whatever the race. But the positions were more endgame containment type positions.

Double for Sure. Can White take?

White has some counterplay against Blue’s outside anchor. Also, Blue’s spares are on the 6-point. Unclear to me whom this favors. Blue might prefer these be further back to build the prime from the back. On the other hand, the spares may be used to make the 4-point or attack the lone checker, or simply to win a straight race with. Another factor. White has a 3-point board but the 4 point is open and he has 3 stiff builders on the 6-point. Not overly scary – a White hit doesn’t even necessarily win. Timing. Blue lacks spare timing and may just bolt the outside anchor next roll, when white must hit or else. And even if he does hit, Blue may win anyway. This may a case of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing, but I’ll vote for Double / Pass.

4. Using Stick’s terminology, I say Double on “fugly.” I guess you gotta take. Pips is pips and nothing has happened yet. Double / Take.

5. 8/2*, 7/2 is the aggressive way to play for the G and may well be right. Do you win twice as many G’s as losses after this? No clue. I’ll just play wimpy 23/18, 15/9. Hanging back with one guy in his board, combined with hitting loose on the deuce point seems likely to generate some shots at the second blot later, with much less risk. So 23/18, 15/9 for me, and maybe I still gammon.
