Just in case anyone read this - I was typing too fast in describing the n-roll position. Everything is right up to the last sentence. However the 1/6 given is the chances of rolling doubles given that you get to a 1-roll position. You might not - you might instead get to a 2-roll position and then roll doubles. The exact chances of that vary depending on n, but as n gets large it converges to 1/7. Thus the EPC of an n-roll position converges to 7n+1 for n large. I haven't checked how quickly, but it's already quite close for n=2 and n=3.
