What is good about making the 20-point is that it brings the checkers out while ahead in the race. But like also MCG mentions, if you play 6/4(2) you use the stack on the 6 to fill a gap in your homeboard and more effectively prime three checkers.
Normally, when ahead in the race you like to make race-oriented plays (taking advantage of the pip count) and not priming plays (where you may have an advantage in development but a disadvantage in timing). Here, with 24/22(2) 6/4(2), you can play a priming game against three back checkers still back on the ace, and at the same time move your own anchor up. You now have a solid racing advantage, development advantage and timing advantage.
