ABT Dead Cube rule needs revision

Alas, stuff happens in real life. At a tournament I directed, a player leading 3-away many-away redoubled to 4, was redoubled to 8, lost the game and later the match.
I agree with ... everyone responding? ... that Rule 5.6 was not intended to protect my player or your Player A from a bonehead cube error. I agree with Barry that the rules needs revising whether y'all are playing "legal moves" or not.
Either the bonehead cube is a legal action or it isn't. One guy says it's obviously legal. Another guy says he's going to disallow the double no matter what the rules say. Something's wrong here.
If it isn't legal, you ought to be able to point to rule(s) that clearly say that a bonehead cube action like A's is an "illegal move." I don't think you can do that. But if it isn't legal, under current rules you may allow or disallow the blunder. Under "legal move" rules, you must disallow it.
If it is legal, then under current rules Player B can't disallow A's double. Under "legal moves," Player B can't disallow it, either.
